Salvation through Jesus Christ:
The Way, the Truth and the Life
The Bible is clear that salvation is not something we can achieve by our own works, but a gift that is only available through Jesus Christ. He is the only way to reconciliation with God and eternal life. In this article, we explore the biblical basis that salvation is only through faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work according to the Gospel.
1.
The Gospel: the basis for salvation
The Gospel is at the heart of the Christian faith. Paul describes it clearly in 1 Corinthians 15:1-4:
“MOREOVER, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” - 1Cor 15:1-4. (KJV)
This is the Gospel: Jesus died for our sins, was buried and rose again on the third day. By believing in this work and confessing Jesus as Lord, we can receive forgiveness and eternal life.

Salvation through the blood of Jesus
Salvation is only possible through the blood of Jesus. His death on the cross was the perfect sacrifice that paid the price for our sins. In Romans 3:25 Paul explains:
“Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;”. - Rom 3:25. (KJV)
Jesus' blood cleanses us from all sin and satisfies God's justice. No other payment or effort on our part can achieve this. It is only by putting our faith in the blood of Jesus that we become righteous before God.
The atoning blood of Jesus is:
Your only salvation from death and from eternal punishment.
Reconciliation to God: He has made peace through the blood of Jesus' cross. (Rom. 3:25, Col. 1:13-14, 20).
Jesus' payment, by God's grace and gift, is available to everyone and to all who believe in God's Son, Jesus Christ.
Salvation, which is available to you and takes effect the moment you come to faith.
Righteousness, which is given to you by God through the faith of Jesus, not by your own works (Eph. 2:8-9)
An eternal payment, giving eternal life.
A payment sufficient for all men; (the sin of the whole world).
The only way to forgiveness of sins (Eph. 1:7)
The payment for ALL sins (1John 1:7-10)
" Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement." - Rom 5:9-11. (KJV)

Jesus is the only way
Jesus Himself made one of the most exclusive claims in history when He said in John 14:6:
“..I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. ” - John 14:6 (KJV)
Here Jesus makes it clear that He is the only way to God. There is no other religion, philosophy or deed that can bring us into communion with the Father. He is not just a way, but the way. This statement excludes all other options and calls us to place our faith entirely in Him.

No one else can save
In Acts 4:12, Peter emphasises the same truth:
“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” - Acts 4:12. (KJV)
This proclaims that Jesus Christ is unique in His mission to save the world. It is only through His name and His work that we can have eternal life. Neither the Law of Moses, nor our own works, nor any other man can save us - only Jesus can.

Faith, not works, leads to salvation
The Bible is clear that salvation is not something we can earn by our own works. In Ephesians 2:8-9 it says:
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” - Eph 2:8-9. (KJV)
This means that our salvation does not depend on how ‘good’ we are or what we do, but on what Jesus has already done for us on the cross. It is faith in Him that saves us, not our efforts.

Why is salvation only through Jesus?
Salvation is exclusively through Jesus because:
He is the only perfect sacrifice for sin: Jesus' death and resurrection is the only way to atone for sin. Hebrews 9:22 states: ‘..without shedding of blood is no remission.’ (KJV)
He is the Son of God: No one else has borne the full righteousness of God and the sinfulness of man in one person. As the Son of God, Jesus had the power to pay the price for sin and restore the relationship between God and man.
His resurrection confirms victory: No one else in history has risen from the dead like Jesus, confirming His power over death and sin (1 Corinthians 15:17).

What must we do to be saved?
The Bible gives a simple but powerful answer:
In your heart believe in your Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ : ‘That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.’ - Romans 10:9 (KJV)
Believe the Gospel: Believe that Jesus died for your sins, was buried and rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures (1Corinthians 15:1-4).
Trust in His blood: Put your full trust in Jesus' blood as the payment for your sins (Romans 3:25; Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 1:14, 20).
The security of salvation is in Christ:
We are secure in His love and belong to His body
The salvation we have in Jesus Christ is not only a free gift, but also a secure and eternal belonging to God. The Bible teaches that; once we are born again through faith in Jesus, we cannot be ‘unborn’ again. We have become part of Christ's body and can never be taken away from Him. This gives us a deep sense of security based on the promises of God and the finished work of Jesus.

God's love is unbroken and invincible
In Romans 8:35-39, St Paul writes about the unconquerable love that God has for us in Christ Jesus:
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”. Rom 8:35-39. (KJV)
Here we see that nothing in creation - neither external circumstances, spiritual forces, the future, nor death itself - can separate us from the love of Christ. Once we are saved and belong to Him, we are firmly anchored in His love. It is not our own ability to cling to Him that secures our salvation, but His faithfulness to us.

The birth anew is eternal
When we are born again through faith in Jesus, it is a spiritual birth that can never be cancelled. Jesus himself said in John 3:6-7:
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. ” - John 3:6-7. (KJV)
Just as a physical birth cannot be undone, the spiritual birth in Christ cannot be reversed. Once we have received the Holy Spirit through faith, we become children of God and enter into an eternal relationship with Him. This new birth makes us children of God forever. We belong to His family, and nothing can break that bond.

We are part of the body of Christ
When we are saved, we become part of the Body of Christ, which is the Church of God. In Romans 8:9, Paul explains:
“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.” - Rom 8:9. (KJV)
The Holy Spirit unites us with Christ and makes us part of His body. As members of His body, we cannot be separated from Him. Jesus himself said in John 10:28-29:
“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. ” - John 10:28-29. (KJV)
We are secure in His grasp and cannot be taken away from Him, because we are part of His body and His work.
4.
We are adopted into the family of God
When we are born again, God adopts us into his family. This bond of adoption is eternal and unchangeable. In Romans 8:14-15 it says:
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” - Rom 8:14-15. (KJV)
As adopted children of God, we have an eternal position in His family. God is a faithful Father who does not abandon His children. John 1:12 says:
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” - Joh. 1:12. (KJV)
Our position as children of God is not dependent on our works, but on our faith in Jesus. Therefore, we can never be ‘unborn’, lose our salvation or place in His family.

Confidence that salvation does not depend on us
Salvation is entirely a work of God. As Paul writes in Ephesians 2:8-9:
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” - Eph 2:8-9. (KJV)
Since salvation is not something we have earned, it is also not something we can lose because of our shortcomings. God, who began the good work in us, will also complete it (Philippians 1:6).
Salvation in Christ is sure and eternal. Once we are born again, we cannot be ‘unborn’ again, because we have been given a new spiritual nature that is rooted in God's promises. We are part of Christ's body, and as His body we cannot be taken away from Him. God's love for us in Christ is unbroken and unconquerable, and nothing in creation can separate us from Him (Romans 8:35-39). This security gives us peace and certainty that we belong to God forever. We are His children, adopted into His family, and nothing can change that. As Jesus said:
“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. ” - John 10:28. (KJV)
It is the Bible that assures us that our salvation in Christ is sure and eternal. Not because any man has said so. When we believe in Jesus and receive the gospel by faith, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of our inheritance (Eph. 1:13-14).
Salvation is not dependent on our works but is a gift of grace through faith (Eph. 2:8-9).
No power in heaven or on earth can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:35-39), and we can live in the knowledge that we are God's children and belong to Him forever (Romans 8:15).
Paul warns us in Galatians 1:8 not to let any other gospel or teaching make us doubt this truth. Let no one cast doubt on the sufficiency of the gospel - Jesus' work is finished, and we are safe in His hand (John 10:28-29).
Salvation is only available through Jesus Christ. The Gospel declares that He died for our sins, was buried and rose again for our justification. Through faith in His blood, we receive forgiveness of sins and eternal life. As Jesus Himself said: 'I am the way, the truth and the life.No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6). This message is both an invitation and a warning. It is an invitation to receive God's grace by faith and a warning not to seek salvation in any other way. Salvation is found in no one else (Acts 4:12), and only through the name of Jesus can we be saved.

Thank you heavenly Father for your loving gift; that I as a sinner have now by your grace; received the atonement through faith in Jesus:
That Christ died for my sins, was buried, and that it is only by the power of His bodily resurrection and shed blood on His cross, that I have received the forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life.
I ask for Your guidance to grow in faith and knowledge of Your will through the word of truth. And help me, from now on, to bear fruit in every good work that pleases You.
