SKJVB™

Proofreader of the Swedish KJV Bible™ – on language notes and marginal notes

When proofreading, I strongly encourage you to actively refer to the language notes and margin notes at the end of each chapter (where these notes are available).

These notes are not added to complicate the reading, but to provide insight into the meaning of words, the history of language use, and the translation choices behind the text. Many expressions in the Bible are linguistically old-fashioned, rich in imagery, or foreign to a modern perspective, and can therefore be easily misunderstood if read out of context.

The language notes aim to:

  • explain words and expressions based on their historical and Biblical usage,

  • show how the King James Bible uses terms consistently,

  • justify the Swedish rendering in light of this,

  • and thereby eliminate the confusion that can otherwise arise when different Bibles use different wording.

The marginal notes are therefore not comments that guide interpretation, but explanations that help the reader understand the text on its own terms. They are particularly important where modern readers might otherwise read into the text later meanings, modern associations or theological assumptions that are not present in the original language.

By taking these notes into consideration, you will contribute to:

  • preserve the internal consistency of the translation,

  • protect the text from unintentional modernisation,

  • and strengthen confidence in the words of the Bible rather than creating uncertainty about linguistic differences.

Proofreading thus becomes not merely a technical review, but part of the work of making the text clear, faithful and understandable, without losing its Biblical weight.
